Peer Review

Peer review for the first paper will occur in a few weeks, and I would like some feedback on how you would like to see this structured. I realize many of you have participated in this activity before, so you have a good sense for what works and what doesn't. So here are a few questions I would like you to address:

1. Should peer review be open or anonymous?
2. How much focus should be placed on low-order concerns such as grammar and punctuation?
3. Should a comment sheet be used, in which everyone would be required to respond to the same questions, or should everyone be allowed to write on topics of their choice?

Is there anything else that should be addressed during peer review in order aid you? Or, is there an aspect that you would like to see overlooked? The class consensus on these issues will determine how these group activities are structured this semester.

I think it would be best for them to be anonymous because them the focus wouldn't be on who wrote this and why they wrote their critique but the focus would be solely on the critique. Also, I like the idea of having a comment sheet as a guideline for what we should be looking for as a review but I don't know how I feel yet about a comment sheet as a step-by-step on what we should be reviewing on. ~*Bye*~

I agree with camille, I think they should be anonymous. I was in a class last semester where we had to read our papers to a group of 3 or 4 other people, and I found that the papers were being critiqued based on the writer more so than the content. I also think that it would be best to have a universal sheet for everyone to fill out as they read with questions that you feel are important for us to pay attention to as we read through classmates' drafts. As far as finding things to critique on our own, there can be a place on the sheet for our own "other comments".

I think it could be either, if the person isn't comfortable go anonymous, grammar and punctuation are important, I mean who wants to read something that is poor in that area, it's confusing. Yes, a comment sheet should be used originaly to help but people should be able to choose what topic their writing about in the end in case they have the desire to do so.

1. I think peer review being annoymous can help because it will allow people to be more open and less concerned about what others will think.
2. At first I think content should be the main focus and getting the persons ideas together in the right order. Towards the end if we do other peer reviews, when a paper is almost done, is when we should focus on things such as grammar and puntuation.
3. A comment sheet would be a good idea because it will help people know what to look for and have a better idea on how to help others.

I think that the peer review should be anonymous also, with staying anonymous you do not get as offended when you paper is getting constructive criticism. Like most said it would also allow people to judge the paper on the paper not on the person writing it. This would bring out more truthful and necessary results.
An average amount of concerns should be put on grammar and punctuation; it should not be ignored. If it is corrected early then there will be more concern on the ideas in the end than the major grammar and punctuation errors.
If a comment sheet is to be used, then it should also have a space where you could comment on the topics of your choice. This would first show us what to look for and then allow us to comment on additional ideas topics what not.

I believe that it should be up to the author to decide if they want their name to be revealed or anonymous. At the same time anonymous papers are often a better way to critique. This is due to the fact that people sometimes go easier on certain people and harder on others.
I believe a comment sheet outlined by the professor would be a good thing to have while we are reading over each other’s papers. I believe the professor should outline it because she knows what criteria the paper should consist of.
I think that the smaller things such as grammar and punctuation should be mentioned. I know I am terrible at those things and it helps knowing what I should look at. It’s also nice to get another persons help on things like that and having that kind of honesty.

I believe that whether it is anonymous or not people will still be able to get good feedback from the other person. Although it would make everyone a lot more comfortable and able to say what they mean if it is anonymous. I also think that there should not be a lot of emphasis placed on grammar, more on the structure of the paper. A step by step review sheet would be helpful to be used as a guideline rather than having to answer question by question

I think peer review should be anonymous, that way people can say what they want without having to be concerned about what other people think.
Grammar and punctuation is important, but I don't think it should be the main focus. It's okay to correct it, but I don't think it should be alot of time should be spent on it.
I think a comment sheet guideline should be provided, with a space below to comment on a topic of your choice.

1. I feel were all adults here and we would be able to handle open peer reviews. But I appear to be the minority on that idea.

2. I feel punctation and grammer should not be at the top of the list in regards to grading, the content should be number one. But both should be taken into context.

3. I feel comment sheet should not be used and all students should be able to freely express their opinions on others writings.
